Episode 40: In Our Battle Dress

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

SPOILER WARNING!  We discuss spoilers for Sherlock 2×01 “A Scandal in Belgravia” between 38:30 and 1:01:00.

This week, there’s been some knitting progress for both of the co-hosts.  Maggie’s made progress on one project that’s going pretty well but has a long way to go, but the other is in ribbing purgatory.  However, she’s also been taking some time to convert someone else to the dark side.  Meanwhile, Karen’s been forgetting her knitting for most of this week, which is all right considering she’ll have time to make up for some of the forgotten knitting when she heads down to Kentucky later this week.

In Geek Squee, there’s a little bit about Avengers kicking more ass, this time at the box office, a project to turn your glasses into your next smartphone and something we probably should have figured out about the Easter Island statues.  We also watched the first episode of Season 2 of Sherlock this week and we have lots of thoughts on the episode. *Lots* of thoughts.

Finally, we have a review of a book for bigger knitters which includes a whole heck of a lot of patterns that Karen is dying to knit.

Going to the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival in Lexington, KY on May 19th?  Keep an eye out for Karen!  She’ll be undoing all the progress she’s been making on the stashdown (though she’s travelling with non-knitters, so who knows how long she’ll be there).  Just look for the woman with a Knit 1 Geek 2 shirt on, and get a sticker for your troubles. :D

Episode 39: Knitters Assemble

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

SPOILER WARNING: our Avengers spoilers start at 29:56 and go until 1:01.  (There’s a little discussion tangentially related to the Avengers after that point, but nothing spoilery.)

In this Hulk-sized episode, Karen and Maggie squeal about the Avengers.  A lot.

But first there’s some knitting going on, and some finished projects from Karen, one of which you might have to go back quite a few episodes to find discussion for.  Meanwhile, Maggie’s breaking her usual project monagamy for something a little more challenging.  Or will be, once she figures out what it is.

In Geek Squee, there’s a couple notes for the Benedict Cumberbatch and Sherlock fans!  There’s some news on Cumberbatch’s role in the Star Trek movie, as well as a recent Q&A for Sherlock fans in New York to kick off Series 2 finally debuting in the United States.

And then there’s our Avengers report.  This is what happens when we see a highly-anticipated movie together, people!  There’s our non-spoilery impressions first, then we get into spoilerville and trust me, you really don’t want to know spoilers before seeing this movie!

Be sure to stick around after the Avengers stuff, though, as we have a prize to draw for those who participated in the Stashdown contest!  Missed out on the contest but trying to curb your spending/use more of your stash?  The thread is still open and there are quite a few people still trying to be good about their yarn consumption!

Just a reminder for anyone in the Kenticky area, Karen’s going to be at the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival on May 19!  She’ll be travelling with muggles, so she’s not sure how long she’ll be there, but if you’re going, be sure to look for her; the first 10 listeners to find her will get a sticker. :D

Episode 38: Frolicking!

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, Karen’s got a mostly-finished project and the same socks she’s been working on for ages.  Oh, and another project waiting in the wings.  Maggie’s got a bunch of new yarn as somebody got to go to the Knitter’s Frolic in Toronto last weekend.  She’s even started a new project, and she’s got a little notebook with some grand ideas. And pictures of a certain knitting blogger/cartoonist/teacher/more in a utilikilt (no, not *those* kinds of pictures).

But it’s not just all Frolic this week!  Karen has a movie review for “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” while Maggie’s found some eye makeup perfect for the Avengers opening this weekend.  There’s news about another Neil Gaiman book that’s getting the stop-motion animation treatment, an awesome Take Your Kids to Work Day that involved a mock trial in the Hunger Games universe, and an epic university prank for the Doctor Who fans.  We’ve also found another purveyor of geeky yarns, and a new online knitting comic strip that we both love to bits.

Only a couple days left to get your name in the draw for the stashdown!  Comment here at the blog (no, spammers, you don’t qualify), email us at knit1geek2@gmail.com or participate in the thread on our Ravelry group by MAY 3RD!  The lucky winner will get their pick of Glenna C’s self-published patterns, courtesy of Ms. Glenna herself.  Thanks, Glenna!

Episode 37: Shuttles on a Plane

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, Maggie is almost but not quite done her one project and is looking forward to the Knitter’s Frolic in Toronto.  Meanwhile Karen is pouting that she won’t be going and has been bingeing on Titanic documentaries and knitting up a storm.  We have news on the latest voyage of the Space Shuttle Discovery (not as far as it’s previous one!),  a new development in tech and tombstones as well as in teleportation, and a certain other sci-fi gadget that may not be TV magic for much longer.  And finally, a new issue of Twist Collective came out this week and we have a rundown of our favourite patterns.

Maggie is going to be at the Knitter’s Frolic in Toronto on Saturday, April 28th.  She’ll have a few stickers to give to the first few people that find her, so be sure to say hello and share what you’re working on!

And finally, we have a box of surprises from a listener that landed on Maggie’s doorstep. :D THANK YOU! :D

Episode 36: Downton Zombie

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week Maggie’s soldiering away on the Watson socks and dreaming about all the other things she could work on when she’s finished.  Meanwhile Karen’s working on a bunch of projects, as usual, and is rewriting the rules of her stashdown.

Of course with three weeks to go before the Avengers invade movie theatres, there’s some Avengers news including another released scene, hints about a scene that was only just filmed and some seriously epic casting for the next IronMan movie.

But Geek Squee doesn’t end there!  There’s an innovative photography idea for this time of year, a possibility of life on mars (no, not the British TV show) and a handy map for all your zombiepocalypse needs.  Not to mention OMG SYNOPSIS FOR THE NEW BOOK FROM J.K. ROWLING!!!

Finally for Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we have some very Downton Abbey yarns and patterns for all those recent converts (and longer fans) amongst our listeners.

And then things descended into mashing up Downton Abbey and zombies (mostly off the air, don’t worry).  Only the classiest of podcast content, that’s us.

Episode 35: Mugging the Easter Bunny

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, Karen and Maggie both have some finished projects (or, well, sort of finished; slippers that are mid-felting and a baby blanket with the ends not woven in still count, right?) and some older projects that have come back around (or are about to).

There’s also some movie news, what with Karen having seen a recent 3d re-release, footage from an upcoming superhero movie as well as new about more movies in the series, and an international trailer for another movie we’re looking forward to that gives a lot more information about the story.  There’s news of a steampunk pageant, some geek appearances on a geeky show and some …interesting merchandising for one of the movies we’ve mentioned in other episodes.

Finally, Think Geek continues to reign over our wallets when it comes to stuff that is just plain damn cool, and there’s a pattern that could fit a rather steampunky outfit.

Episode 34: And Then Bollywood Happened

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week Maggie’s finished a sock, whatever she tries to say, while Karen’s started yet another sock.  This one is only for certain occasions though, which makes it perfectly all right, right?

We’re off to the movies!  We checked out the first of the Snow White adaptations coming out this year, “Mirror, Mirror”.  The results were…mixed.  The geek squee doesn’t stop there, though.  Along with the movie we saw a lot of trailers for movies we’re looking forward to, and we have news about a project to create your own tricorder.  Of course we have to report on some of the geeky April Fools’ goings-on, including a pattern for seriously discerning knitters, aka our listeners.

SPOILER WARNING!  After giving our general, non-spoilery feeling about “Mirror, Mirror”, we get into more spoilery ones at about 20:15.  Spoilers stop at 34:08.

Episode 33: Payback Hangover

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week things were not going well, so there’s not a huge amount of knitting progress, though Maggie finished one sock in a pair, so that’s something.  Meanwhile, Karen is squeeing over getting to go to one fiber festival and wailing about not going to another.

Luckily there’s geek squee to save the day with. The Hunger Games is kicking some box office ass, and the amazing teenagers don’t stop there as we also have a story about some teens making a Viper flight simulator. There’s news of a huge geek guest star on an upcoming episode of Big Bang Theory, the world’s most awesome playroom, and a coming documentary about comic-con that looks like it’s going to rock.  Oh, and Maggie has a topical new toy.   There’s also a kickstarter for a novel series that we’re crushing on (psychic dinosaurs! Jet packs!  1930s!) as well as a couple thank yous for some of our listeners and a blog post with a LOT of great knitting podcasts for you to check out.

Episode 32: This Podcast Needs a Designated Driver

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, we have alcohol.  No, for real this time.  It’s been a long week, and Karen’s got little progress on her projects and a mojito, while Maggie has achieved quite a bit more and started a new project.  Oh, and she’s got a London Fog or two under her belt.

However, there’s lots of geek news including some geeky art of the knitted and digital variety and an article about science coming to the rescue of cashmere-producing goats.  On the movie front there’s a trailer for a movie that we only have to wait two months for this time and some behind the scenes featurettes for one of the two Snow White adaptations we’re looking forward to, as well as another modern classic getting the 3D treatment.  Oh, and geek god Nathan Fillion has some interesting casting news (squee!).

As for Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there are two books, including one filled with patterns for nerdy types, and a picture book to warm any knitter’s heart.   There are also a couple patterns that to feature, including one that just blew our freaking minds, and a KAL and a referral to a coupon code if you want to get your Lord of the Rings on.

Got any suggestions for video podcasts?  Want to share what you’re doing to decrease you stash and get your name in the drawing for the stashdown?    Comment here at the blog (no, spammers, you don’t qualify), email us at knit1geek2@gmail.com or participate in the thread on our Ravelry group!  Want to know when new episodes go live or see the occasional bit of news?  Check out our Twitter feed!  And as always, we have merch in our Zazzle.com and Zazzle.ca stores. :D

Update!

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in News

Hey everyone!  Just updating to let you know that there won’e be a podcast this week.  It’s March Break up here, and the library is getting crazier by the day, so editing would so not be happening this week.  I didn’t realize this until after we recorded the last episode, though, so sorry there was no advance notice.

We’ll record this weekend and hope to have a new episode out next week.  See you then!

Episode 31: Go To The Mattresses

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week we have old projects finished (Maggie`s sweater!) and nearly finished, and new projects started(another Maggie sweater!).  There`s also a thread for the Stashdown-along, so head on over and let us know your rules/goals for using/getting rid of some of your stash. (And if you’re not getting rid of stash, this would be a good place to watch for people getting rid of theirs!)

Over in geek squee there’s a lot of pre-production and behind the scenes news including Lady!Watson, some glimpses of The Hobbit and some costuming that has to be seen to be believed.  There’s a new Avengers trailer that gives us a little more of an idea of the second plot and character arcs for the movie (yay character development!).  There’s also a video that has to be seen to be believed:  Human.  Mattress.  Dominoes.  I’ll just let that sink in for a moment.

Finally for Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there’s a couple teapot/french press cozies that will help you “CAFFEINATE…CAFFEINATE,” as well as an artist doing some pocket princesses that we loooooove and a huge new knitting book to give a pre-review on.  And I do mean huge in the literal sense.

The Stashdown is on!  To get your name in the prize drawing at the end of April, comment here at the blog (no, spammers, you don’t qualify), email us at knit1geek2@gmail.com or participate in the thread on our Ravelry group!  Want to know when new episodes go live or see the occasional bit of news?  Check out our Twitter feed!  And as always, we have merch in our Zazzle.com and Zazzle.ca stores. :D

Episode 30: OMG SQUEE Times Three

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week there’s lots of OMG!! and SQUEE!!  but first there’s a finished sweater for Maggie and some socks that are getting close to the finish line for Karen after some ripping.  And then it’s time for the three squees: OMG JKR is writing a new book!  OMG there’s a clip from “Brave” online! OMG there are promo pics for the next Star Trek movie!  And when your eardrums have healed, there’s also an application that uses Google Maps that’s both fascinating and creepy, an amazing T-Rex costume, Lucy Lawless being a Warrior Princess for the earth,  and news on the possible love child of the phone and the tablet. Finally there’s more squealing over a good mail week for Maggie, and a book suggestion for those looking to use up some of their stash.

And speaking of using stash, the Stashdown is on!  You make your own rules and goals and knit/donate/gift/sell your way to a lighter stash!  …Just in time for a lot of fibre festivals, of course.  Don’t have much stash?  Keep an eye on the Ravelry group for those that are getting rid of theirs!  Email us, comment on the blog or at Ravelry and your name will go into a draw for a special something at the end of April. :D   (And yes, Watson-along projects count!)

Episode 29: Bring On The Oreo Martinis!

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week we’re plugging away at projects and trying not to drink heavily after some frustrating days.   There’s some news about movies involving Celtic mythology, another based on Karen’s favourite fairytale, and a Joss Whedon movie that’s finally getting released; some seriously epic crafty things inspired by video games and some seriously epic sculptures from recycled CDs.   Oh, and a series of 5K runs that will give you some serious incentives to train.  Hint: It involves zombies.  We’ve also got an upcoming videocast and two projects we love: one for the crack and one for the OMG PRETTY.

Stay tuned for more details on our upcoming Stashdown-along!  The Watson-along is still going on as well and feel free to join in!  Check and see what others are doing (as well as the usual goofiness) over on the Ravelry thread, chime in there, or email us to let us know how you’re doing!  And if you haven’t started anything yet, no worries!  There’s no time limit on this one; just join in whenever you can.

Episode 28: Drop and Give Me 20 Stitches!

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, we have a couple finshed projects, including Maggie’s Linen Stitch Scarf of Doom!  Yaaaaay!  We’re Watsoning-along with varying levels of progress and Maggie’s powering along on her sweater, and gained another level in badass.  Karen, meanwhile, was increasing her stash with some dyeing and decreasing it by destashing.

There are not one but TWO new trailers and some l33t haxxoring of a knitting machine, some casting news and the answer to an age-old mystery.  DC Comics’ New 52 raises its head again, and we take a look at an animation that will blow your freaking mind.  There’s also some great geeky videos involving Faraday cages and Shit Knitters Say.  Finally we wrap up with a book suggestion for the cooks out there, as well as some gorgeous colourways that are tempting us.

Thanks to everyone that’s left reviews for us on iTunes!  We’re very glad that people are enjoying the ‘cast.

The Watson-along is still going strong, and we’re starting a new knit/crochet/whatever-along soon!  Check and see what others are doing (as well as the usual goofiness) over on the Ravelry thread, chime in there, or email us to let us know how you’re doing!  And if you haven’t started anything yet, no worries!  There’s no time limit on this one; just join in whenever you can.

Episode 27: M’s Hair is Red, K’s Eyes are Blue…

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

…To all of our listeners,

WE LOVE YOU! :D

This week there’s loooooove in the air.  Well maybe not so much love for one of Maggie’s (never-ending) projects, but other than that.  There are Watson socks on the go and a gorgeous sweater started, and other projects are trying to seduce Karen like a playboy billionaire in a romance novel.  (“I find it so hard to resist you…but I MUST!”)  If you’re still looking for the perfect geeky Valentine cards we’ve got a few options, as well as a few gifts (though those might not arrive in time).  There’s also some discussion about the Avenger-that-could-have-been and some discussion about which characters we’d like to have as our Valentine this Feb. 14th.  And finally to round out the crushing, we’ve got a pattern collection where we want to make ALL THE THINGS, and some adorable art for Sherlock/Dr. Who/Harry Potter fans.

The Watson-along is on the go, and there are lots of people participating!  Check and see what others are doing (as well as the usual goofiness) over on the Ravelry thread, chime in there, or email us to let us know how you’re doing!  And if you haven’t started anything yet, no worries!  There’s no time limit on this one; just join in whenever you can.

Episode 26: Equal Parts WTF and Squee!

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week we have projects that are ongoing and that are nearing completion.  Good thing too, as we’re starting our first knitalong!  In geeky stuff, there’s some wtf in the form of changes to the Oscar rules, a SOPA-like bill going through Canadian Parliament, and Voldemort reading fanfic.  In the squee, there’s some non-breakage of a major website, a kick-ass teenager who will possibly rule the world someday, and a Certain British Actor reading some naughty, naughty things.  We’ve also got a couple places where knitters and crafters can give back.

The Watson-along is up and running!  We’re knitting the Elementary Watson Socks and other projects inspired by the cabled sweater John Watson wears in the first series of BBC’s Sherlock.  Can’t participate just yet?  No worries, you’re welcome to start at any time!  Check out our Ravelry group for discussion and updates; if you’re not on Ravelry, email us with your projects and we’ll post them on the blog, if you can’t comment on the blog itself (we’ve been having spammer troubles, so it might be a little problematic).

(And yes, somehow there is a lot of thumping and bumping in this week’s ‘cast.  Our bad!  We’ll be sure to remember to pad the mic stand next week.)

Episode 25: The Game, Maggie, Is On!

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week there’s some discussion of both knitting and non-knitting projects, as well as some resisting of temptation as we gear up for our first knitalong!  Not surprisingly, there’s lots of news of the Sherlockian variety, though only one small, maybe-sorta-kinda spoilery bit for the new episodes of the BBC series; see below for the timecode to avoid if you’re worried about spoilers (don’t worry, we’re not actually discussing the episodes this week!).  After cookies last week, this week there’s some very geeky (and epic) cake, comic book characters in different historical eras (no kilts, sadly), some knitting superheros.  Oh, and the internet is still uncensored.  More animated .gifs for all!

SPOILERS!  Well, small ones  for BBC’s Sherlock from 21:30 to about 27:15.

We’re starting a knitalong!  We’re knitting the Elementary Watson Socks and other projects inspired by the cabled sweater John Watson wears in the first series of BBC’s Sherlock.  We’re kicking it off on January 29th (the anniversary of when Sherlock and John first met) but feel free to join in at any time!  Karen has two projects to do for this one so she’s going to be participating in this one for a while. :)   See the thread in our Ravelry group for more details.

Episode 24: In Which Karen’s Brain Proves Easy to Derail

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week we skip around a little bit as we discuss things we’re working on, things we’ve finished (or, well, that Maggie’s finished), and things that we’re planning.  There’s a little more discussion of RDJ’s Holmes (see below for the spoiler times) and some discussion of another Holmes actor that completely derails Karen’s brain.  There’s some news for Star Wars fans, an opportunity for D&D fans, some tech news–some that we find awesome and some that we don’t entirely understand but which sounds cool–and some human/women’s rights stuff which is pissing us off.  There’s also cookies!  Lots of cookies!  Not to mention hot guys in period clothing. :D

SPOILER ALERT!  A few more spoilers for “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” between 28:25 and 43:30.

Episode 23: This is Not an Encouraging Start to the Year

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

After holidays and car troubles and computer troubles, we are FINALLY BACK!  We have lots of knitting to catch up on as well as some chatter about how our holidays went and a couple of the things Santa brought us.  There’s a lot of big geek news to catch up on, what with a trailer for a certain Peter Jackson movie having come out a couple weeks ago, and of course there’s a lot of Sherlock-y news (including some spoilery discussion about the new movie–see below for the time codes if you don’t want to be spoiled!).  And finally, there are a couple things to start the new year off with, and provide some inspiration for the months to come.  Oh, and we’re not sure if you can hear it, but Karen was running a fever without realizing it when we recorded.  So blame any weirdness on that.  Really.  Because we’re not like this every week. *innocent look*

SPOILER ALERT!  Spoilery discussion of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starts at 25:35  and ends at 33:05.

Episode 22: Have Yourself a Tangenty Little Christmas

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week we’re gearing up for the holidays with some finished (or nearly finished) projects and some pre-holiday yarn sale shopping.  There’s some legitimate geeky news including a Christmas tree for knitters and some movie news, but there’s also some letting loose and blathering about the holidays and plans and challenges for the new year.  Here be tangents, so don’t say you weren’t warned.

We’re still not sure just when we’ll be recording this week, so we’d like to add that this year has been a big adventure for us both, as we weren’t quite sure what would happen when we started tossing things out into the void.  We’ve both been excited and very thankful for the reception we’ve received from our listeners, and hope that this holiday season is a good one for all of you. :D

Any New Year’s Resolutions you want to share?  Email us at knit1geek2@gmail.com or join in the discussion on the Knit 1 Geek 2 Ravelry group as well as chatter with us on Twitter!  And you can check out our merch in our Zazzle.com and Zazzle.ca stores!

Episode 21: This is Why Karen Shouldn’t Podcast Tired

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, Maggie’s started a new project, made some progress on an older one and Karen’s trying not to fall asleep or cough all over the microphone.  There’s Sherlocky news (both of the television and film variety), some proof that women like genre movies too, a really interesting concept car, some children’s drawings come to life, and a handy-dandy, very-non-pocket-sized guide to magic in fantasy series.  And if your house doesn’t already look enough like the Enterprise, there’s a guide in how to make it so.  There’s a new knitting book we are dying to get our hands on, and a trip out into the real world this weekend to perhaps get some more yarn. :D

We’re going to be going to the Purple Purl’s Pre-Boxing-Day-Boxing-Day Sale this weekend!  We’ll be wearing our shirts and I’ll have stickers so say hello if you see us!

Episode 20: Have You Been Naughty or Nice?

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week Maggie has some new projects that she’s knitting for herself, while Karen is still working on the same things as last week.  There’s a handy app to answer the age-old question, lots of Whovian news and goodies (and some extended discussion of movies based on TV shows), discussion of wasting time on the internet and the BIGGEST TIME SUCK EVER (and a moderate time suck that Maggie’s become addicted to), some music that everyone really needs to hear to believe and a PSA for anyone planning to see Breaking Dawn.  We also discuss some gifty ideas, including a book at the top of Karen’s Christmas list.

Episode 19: Not the All Sparklepires Episode

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week Maggie has FINISHED HER HOLIDAY KNITTING (!!) and has done some nifty-looking sewing as well.  Karen has another project started and did her best to corrupt some youngsters and bring them to the fibre side.  So, par for the course, really.

We discuss some more NASA nerdiness, some insane Thanksgiving goodies (CherPumPle, anyone?),  a some movie news (Muppets!  More Snow White!), a desk that we are dying to get and a geek dating reality show that we’re dreading, based on its creators’ pedigree.  Oh yeah, and sparklepires.  Someone needs to make the Charlie Swan Show right now!

As for what we’re crushing on this week, there’s some local sock monkeys looking for good homes and another major online publication with a new issue.  WOOT!

Episode 18: I Don’t Have a Problem! I Can Stop At Any Time!

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

In this bigger-than-usual episode, there’s the return of a poor, neglected project on Karen’s part and some slogging through a current project and important travel knitting decisions on Maggie’s.  We squeal over a new trailer (BRAVE, OMG!), an idea for some holiday baking, some good news about geeks in higher education and some legislation that could affect a lot of people on the internet.  There’s some discussion of our favourite things in one of this week’s new online knitting magazines, a handy list of excuses for buying yarn as well as some self-examination to see just how hooked on knitting we are.

This week there are finished objects and new projects as well as some tough decisions to make about what to knit next.  We discuss a big nerd sporting event, some movie news and proof that the Internet can be used for good (and for boobs).  Need some gift suggestions for the geek in your life?  We have those too!  And we also have this week’s temptations, of course, of the very small and the very geeky varieties.

Episode 16: Well Someone’s a Little Stoned

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, Maggie’s on some fun antibiotics, so she’s feeling a little loopy.  Thankfully she’s finished one very large project and didn’t try working on the others that she has on the go.  Karen, meanwhile, is still working on the same things as last week, though she does have some suggestions for those that are hexipuffing along.  There’s  lots of movie news and some flashbacks to our childhoods, as well as some things for the kids in all of us.  There’s also a reminder that time is ticking away to gift-giving season, so we have a few suggestions on where to look for last-minute knits.

As usual you can email us at knit1geek2@gmail.com or join in the discussion on the Knit 1 Geek 2 Ravelry group as well as chatter with us on Twitter.  And you can check out our merch in our Zazzle.com and Zazzle.ca stores!

We’re back with the old projects, new yarn,  and a special guest that pipes up occasionally.  Maggie has a very large finished project, Karen has the same project getting bigger.  There’s news that Warner Brothers is throwing the invisibility cloak over the Harry Potter movies, a big list of Halloweeny movies and food and a tourist destination we’re both dying to go to.  There’s also lots of vacation yarn, which is the best kind of yarn ever.

Episode 13: Lucky Frakkin’ Thirteen

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week we finally get through the podcast on the fourth try (no, really), with the help of Admin Monkey who was our human mic-holder for the night.  Once we actually get recording, there’s news about our projects including a finished object. Of course we can’t avoid the sad geek news of the week about Steve Jobs’ passing, but we try to bring in some lighter topics as well.  And finally there’s both an account of some crushes turning into purchases, as well as a place where we can give back.  Also, there are outtakes after the outro.  Just be warned, the outtakes earn the explicit tag on their own!

Thanks to the Electric Sheep for saying such nice things about us on your podcast.  We love you!   Though really.  Us?  Ladies?  Sure you’re talking about the same podcast here? ;)

Episode 10: A Day at the Fair

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, it’s mostly about the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters’ Fair.  Who we met (hi Delores!), what we saw, what we were looking for, what we got, and a few little tips on how to go to these kinds of events and not be totally overwhelmed. But it’s not just all Fair, all the time–there’s a little geek news for tabletop gamers wanting to bring younger gamers into the fold, as well as responses to a couple requests we’ve had, capped off with a little news for anyone whose credit cards aren’t in danger of bursting into flame.

Episode 9: Here Be Dragon(Con)s

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

This week, there’s some discussion of a con we’re not at but wish we were, there are some finished objects, some progress on others (and a couple started *cough*) as well as a handy tip for knitting lace.  There’s quite a bit of movie-related news involving some interesting casting and a classic’s re-release that has Karen squealing.  There’s also some advance planning for our road trip this weekend (WOO!).

Oh and an update on something mentioned in the podcast: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has *not* lost its third director.  Bring on the witticisms and the decapitations!

We have new stuff!  We’re on twitter and have shops on Zazzle.com and Zazzle.ca!  We’re also going to be at the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters Fair in Kitchener, Ontario on Sept. 10th, and (provided it arrives in time!) we’ll have a little something special for people that find us. :D

Episode 8: Hunkerin’ Down in the Yarn Bunker

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

On this week’s episode, the adventures in knitting have taken a toll due to end-of-the-summer craziness, but there’s some adventures in yarn buying and some grandiose plans to make up for it.  This episode is also brimming with cute and LOLs (thanks to a couple inventive tumblr accounts and a band with a flashback to our childhoods) and some news about an upcoming movie that has us rather excited.  Finally, in case you needed more projects on the go, there are a few patterns we’ve found/been hearing about that are pretty tempting.

We’re going to be on the road on Sept. 10th, hitting up the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters’ Fair!  And the something special mentioned in the podcast shipped today, so if you’re coming, be sure to find us and say hello!

As ever, you can email us at knit1geek2@gmail.com or join in the discussion on the Knit 1 Geek 2 Ravelry group.

In this episode:

Celtic Knot Stole

Blue Moon Fiber Arts

While she’s not using the pattern itself, Maggie’s using the Uptown Boot Socks as inspiration for the peace socks.

Karen has finally updated her Ravelry pattern page!  Now you can see pictures of the Potions Master Stole, the Aphrodite Socks, the Viper Pilots and the Nameless Brainless Socks.

As mentioned above, we’ll be at the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitters’ Fair!

Jamieson’s Spindrift

Wollmeise - click on the link at the right side of the bottom banner to see the page in English!

The Loopy Ewe

Adventures with Wall-E (OMG SO CUTE EEEE!)

From Mark Gatiss himself: Sherlock is finished filming! Benedict doesn’t look too happy about it though :(

Hustlin’ Holmes tumblr because there’s nothing geeks love more than macros using Microsoft Paint.

OK Go’s rendition of The Muppet Show theme

Updates on Brave, including some info on the plot.  OMG IS IT NEXT SUMMER YET?

Gudmundsdottir by Carol Sunday

Yet another pattern by Cookie A that we’re losing our minds over: the PB&J socks

So I kind of caved and bought the pattern for the Beekeeper’s Quilt.  Check out the tips, swaps and knitalong at the Tiny Owl Knits Ravelry group.

Episode 7: Put on Your Rantypanties and Man the Cupcake Trebuchet

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

In this episode, there’s an update on what we’re working on (and what we wish we were working on).  There’s a couple geeky things that made us mad this week, and so we get our rant on, complete with  cupcake trebuchets, glitter psychological warfare and a couple f-bombs (we use the explicit tag for a reason, and it’s not always because of boobs!).  Finally we drool over some lovely yarn and fantasize about our dream knitting/crochet/spinning tools and accessories.

So what almost totally frivolous tool/accessory would you get if you had a couple hundred bucks to devote to such a cause?  We want to know!  Comment at the blog, email us at knit1geek2@gmail.com or tell us at the Ravelry group.

Episode 6: Beware a Geek Scorned

Posted by SuperKaren  Published in Podcasts

In this week’s episode, Karen is renaming her Viper Pilot Socks and waffling about yet another project, while Maggie has a finished object and is slogging away on the Quilt of Doom.  There are some fannish disappointments (JACKSOOOOOOOON!! *shakes fist*) and some squealing (POTTERMORE!) along with in-depth discussion about the tension between networks and fans, as well as some SPOILERY discussion of Captain America (28:05-43:40) which includes use of the phrase “man titty”.

No, really.  There’s a reason we use the explicit tag, people.
