So this week we have something a little different.

As crazy scheduling and life stuff prevented us from getting together and doing a traditional podcast around the weekend of the Knitters’ Frolic, we took the show on the road to our knitting group, most of whom were with us at the Frolic.  There’s discussion about the vendors  and goodies we found at the Frolic, as well as discussion on a bunch of other topics: the local Agricultural fair, our hopes for Iron Man 3 the night after we recorded, some geeky things we’d seen that week, reminders that it *was* Beltane the night that we recorded…

…Oh, and some discussion about a robot inadvertently drawing certain parts of the male anatomy on Mars.  You know, the usual.

Of course as this was recorded in our usual cafe and my iPod Touch proved to have a slightly more sensitive mic than I expected, my apologies for the background noise.  I’ve tried to cut out the worst of it, as this is edited down from the nearly two hours that we talked.  We definitely know what NOT to do for the next time!

This week after debating how knitting would work in zero gravity, we hop into the knitting with some recent acquisitions on Karen’s part as well as a finished project, the start of a new project and some progress on some works in progress.  And pretty much all of these are socks.  There’s also a large amount of squealing over a certain favourite movie of Karen’s that’s recently been re-released in 3D.  Meanwhile Maggie has a couple projects she’s been working on while struggling to find the right main project now that the 1X1 Slice of Crazy Pie is done, not that that has prevented her from acquiring some new yarn from a friend’s stash.   There’s also some discussion of the upcoming Knitter’s Frolic with some plans and strategies for tackling yarn events.

In Geek Squee, there’s an update about Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, Sherlock and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, all of which we are just dying to see. Of course there’s also discussion of the news that have rocked the fandom world as Fox has started sending cease-and-desist letters to purveyors of Jayne hats.  We also have a blog that demonstrates just how ludicrous some of the poses comic book characters adopt can be, as well as an event that is probably the geekiest party night of the year.

Finally in Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we have a cookbook that has some seriously drool-worthy recipes that Maggie’s dying to try, as well as a crafter of geeky figures that had us exploding with adorable.

This week Maggie has finally finished the Cardigan of Doom!  Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!  She’s also finished one of the many baby blankets she’s knitting, and can’t start the next one just yet, so she’s on the hunt for something new to knit.  However, that’s not a hugely urgent thing as somebody has started spinning on a borrowed wheel.  Muahahahaaaa another one to the dark side!  Karen, meanwhile, is almost done a pair of socks (well, her usual definition of “done”, which usually doesn’t include kitchenering toes) and has picked up a project that’s been lying dormant for a couple weeks.  There may also have been a little yarn acquisition that totally doesn’t count toward the “not buying yarn” thing.

In Geek Squee we have a report from the live sneak peek Peter Jackson gave of the next Hobbit movie and some discussion of some new, spoilery information about a certain character in Iron Man 3.  There’s also a plea from geek icon Nathan Fillion for what he’d like as a birthday present from his fans, a trailer from the new Wolverine movie and a science-oriented winner of an annual Peep diorama contest.

In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we have a chance to vote for some Lego sets we’d love to see, an amazing Hobbit-themed jacket (seriously people, GO LOOK AT THIS) and some yarn that is dyed-to-order and so gorgeous omg.

This week, Maggie is so, SO close to finishing the Cardigan of Doom, after Karen made a perilous journey to the knitting store to get her another skein (one does not simply walk into the yarn store, after all).  That hasn’t prevented her from shopping another knitter’s stash for  yarn for another sweater, though, or from making more sock monkeys.  Karen, meanwhile, has mostly been concentrating on surviving March Break, though she has a little progress on a couple projects, and has done some much-need knitting basket organizing.  And, um, might have bought some yarn that SO DOES NOT COUNT in her efforts not to buy yarn.

In Geek Squee, Magneto is officiating at Professor X’s wedding.  No, really.  There’s also a new international trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness (now with more plot!), an offer from Peter Jackson to direct Doctor Who, two girls that have made some really cool progress in science and a pretty unique historic needlework sampler.   And of course we just have to mention that Sherlock has started filming series 3.

This week, well…it’s episode 69.  There are a few things not to listen to around the kids/in-laws right off the bat, but we swear, we lay off the innuendo after the first couple minutes.

Meanwhile in knitting, a certain project of Maggie’s is sleeping on the couch, as it has thrown yet another monkey wrench into her knitting plans.  This of course means that she’s been forced into the arms of on other projects, oh noes.  Karen, meanwhile, has no pretensions to monogamous knitting and so she has the same few projects in rotation as she had before, as well as being tempted to trying a fling with some new ones.

In Geek Squee, the third Hobbit movie has been pushed back a few months to when it should have come out in the first place, a freaking amazing omg LEGO model of Hogwarts, someone has actually created a suit that gives you “Spidey sense”, a planned movie for Neil Gaiman’s upcoming book and news about a convention that one of our listeners mentioned.   There are also digressions about how much we want the Muppet Show to come back, as well as a show Karen loved that *is* coming back.

This week, the Spock Monkey is with its new owner (stay tuned after the outro to hear the handover, as well as a little of our knit night) and Maggie is still.  working.  on.  the.  cardigan.   Karen, meanwhile, is working on a bunch of projects, as is only to be expected, though her Cachoeira socks are moving a little slowly.  Not so her movie socks, though, as she got to see Les Miserables, and has a few thoughts about that particular movie.   We also have proof that the newbie has her priorities in order and we have been teaching her well (and that she’s not so much of a newbie anymore)!

In Geek Squee, the question of the government’s preparedness for a zombie invasion at the southern border was brought up in Canada’s House of Commons.  No really, you can find it on YouTube.  Meanwhile there was a different kind of invasion in London as part of the upcoming Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special, as well as a couple new places and ways to watch it when it finally comes out.  There’s also news about the mad scramble for San Diego Comic-Con tickets (any of our listeners manage to snag them?  Let us know about your experience!), a PSA for anyone who has ordered from KnitPicks in the last couple months, and some interesting casting and news about X-Men: Days of Future Past.

This is the Spock Monkey that was made for Lillian. He’s hanging out with us at Knit Nite.

Do you remember the Green Lantern baby blanket Maggie made at the beginning of the year? Here is the action shot with Baby Lantern… And the Nightwing Sock Monkey is his guardian while he naps… obviously.

In this episode we’re digging out from under a dumping of snow and breaking boards with our elbows and feet.  Or, well, Maggie is, on that last one (YAY BLUE BELT!).  We’re also working on some knitting.  In Maggie’s case she has one finished object (that came in handy for her not-used-to-Canadian-winters mother recently) and is still slogging along on the Cardi That Doesn’t End (yes, we sing the song, too).  Oh, and she’s finished a certain nerdy sock monkey.  Karen, meanwhile, is being her usual non-monogamous self and has a new sock project as well as a very old shawl project, along with making some new knitting converts.

In Geek Squee, we have a very…unique and rather grotesque advertisement for The Walking Dead, new about an upcoming stop-motion animation steampunk comedy with some stellar talent providing voices as well as another go at a childhood classic that we are…not really thrilled about.  There’s also an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice from another angle (no zombies in this one), an adorable spoof of Downton Abbey by the people at Sesame Street, a set of weapons designed for girls, and a little science fact to go with a legendary weapon.  But we’re not done yet!  There’s a certain monarch was found in a place that would not be the first place to look in this particular game of hide-and-seek, confirmed after some amazing genealogical sleuthing, a cartoon appearance by one of our favourite actors (doing an impression of another favourite actor!) and a hilarious parody of Les Miserables by…the South Korean Air Force.  No, really.

This is the sketch that was referenced in Episode 66. Yes, she is knitting with her own entrails and the eagle-eyed ones will notice that there are extra digits dotting the “knitting.”

This week, once we get past some slightly off-topic talking about the weather, Maggie is attempting to be monogamous (we’ll see how long that lasts, considering she’s looking for projects that will use her sock yarn ends) and has finished a project but perhaps not the way she wanted it to be.  Meanwhile, Karen has a couple finished projects (because she does actually finish things sometimes) and is planning on starting another, though what that might be might change a few times.

In Geek Squee, a couple TV shows that we are anxiously anticipating have started filming or are at least setting up some familiar-looking sets.  Bonus: Maggie found some adorable sweatery cookies for when one of those shows airs!  There’s also some news about the upcoming Star Wars movie, probably the best TARDIS cosplay we’ve seen yet (and yes, it’s bigger on the inside), a commemorative coin that Doctor Who fans might be interested in, and a piece of artwork that really has knitting on the brain (*rimshot*)!

In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there’s a sweater pattern that might be of interest for the guys or those that knit for guys, as well as a seriously epic project Maggie recently discovered and that’s in a book Karen wanted to share: “Knitted Lace: A Collection of Favourite Patterns from Interweave”, edited by Anne Merrow.

In Geek Squee, we have the best. reading. ever. of Fifty Shades of Grey, a bee with a super nerdy species name and some new designs for astronauts’ suits that might look a little familiar.  There’s also an announcement about the final regular cast member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. television show, some best and worst of 2012 lists you may be interested in as well as some new entries to the National Film Registry.  There’s also a really neat fan-organized way to help Sherlock in his adventures that we are SO SIGNING UP FOR.

First off, there’s a note for those who want to help the residents of Newtown, CT; if you’ve been avoiding the news like Karen has, just skip the first 30 seconds of the episode.  We don’t mention it in the episode itself.

Then..lots of squealing and knitting and more squealing about our experience at the midnight showing of the Hobbit as much of our recent knitting is tied up in that.  Of course there are other projects going on, so we fill you in on what we’ve picked up after finishing our Hobbitalong projects as well as discussing a couple things Maggie is thinking of working on sometime soon.

There won’t be much mention of the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut this past week on the podcast (for a variety of reasons, including not even being able to write this without crying!), but our hearts go out to everyone touched by this tragedy.

At the time we recorded, there wasn’t a lot of information about what people could help the students and families at Sandy Hook Elementary, but we’ve collected a number of resources on the Ravelry group that I’ll also list here.

To help using your wallet:

The families in Newtown that lost loved ones on Friday still need financial help to pay for funerals as well as for everyday things during a time when they have to take time off work to deal with everything. John Tesh’s radio show has collected a number of links of organizations offering help in the community, as has ABC News.   These groups should be legitimate; if you come across others, please carefully check out any links to people or groups raising money after this or any other tragedy that you may find.  Unfortunately there are always a few scammers that crop up at times like these.

To help using your needles:

There are a number of drives that have started to make stuffed animals, blankets and other cozy, comforting things for those affected.  Please look for updated information on each blog or forum to see what the needs are and whether they have reached their goal, or what the status is (if they’re just gathering interest at the moment, whether they have a contact with someone in the community, whether they’re ready for people to send items, etc.).  They include:

This week we’re creeping ever closer to the finish line on our Hobbitalong projects, and have either picked up other projects to keep us sane or are starting to think about what we’re going to do when we’re done our deadlines.  Karen also headed out on a yarn excursion this weekend and came back with, er… souvenirs.

This week we’re still chugging along at our Hobbitalong projects, though we’ve taken on a couple other projects to ease the strain (or are about to).  Or for distraction at the movies, which results in a handy tip for other knitters.  Karen also springs a surprise on Maggie, namely a mention of us in a knitting magazine that literally had Maggie bouncing up and down on the couch.   Oh, and there’s some discussion of poutine.

In Geek Squee, there’s some news for Star Trek fans that are planning to go see the Hobbit in IMAX-3D (and which may change plans for those that haven’t bought tickets yet), another Twilight fanfic that’s turning into an actual published book, and a comic book appearance of our favourite astrophysicist.  For those traveling this holiday season, there’s some stats that might help calm nervous fliers, and we also have our thoughts on the OMG SUPER ADORABLE “A-Babies vs. X-Babies” comic book we mentioned a few weeks ago.

In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there’s a new issue of Twist Collective out and we are loving all over this issue, and we also have a suggestion for a quick-knit pattern that might be useful for those overcommitted holiday knitters.

This week, someone forgot to check and make sure that the audio was coming from the real microphone, not her laptop’s built-in mic.  *facepalm*  Sorry about the audio quality, guys!

In the meantime, we’ve made some progress on our Hobbitalong projects–though some more than others–and haven’t quite gone into panic mode yet.  There are also a couple digressions about certain epically historically nerdy TV we plan to use to keep charging along.  And there’s a couple other projects we’ve been using to keep our sanity.

Of course we have a rundown of some of the greatest, geekiest Halloween costumes we saw on the internet and commentary about the huge buyout that happened between Disney and Lucasfilm.  There’s a new airline safety briefing that you’ll want to pay attention to if you’re a Tolkien fan, as well as a maybe, kinda, very speculative cameo by a huge Tolkien geek for a later Hobbit movie, and a small indie movie that was able to use the geekiest. location. ever.  for filming.  And if our American listeners aren’t entirely sick of campaign ads, we have a funny parody one for you, starring one of geekdom’s heroes.

Finally we have a Hobbit themed yarn/fibre club to tempt you (along with some other geek-inspired rovings and yarn!) and a couple delicious yarns as well as a non-knitting gift idea from a repeat offender–er, previously lusted-after dyer.

This week, Karen and Maggie are joined again by Newbie Lauren, who’s been having some trials and tribulations with her knitting.  Maggie, meanwhile has been making progress on her Hobbitalong project, while Karen’s is…progressing.  Slowly.  Oh, and we got to name a new Blue Moon Fiber Arts colourway.

Of course there’s a certain item of news that came out the day after we last recorded that has Karen shrieking (literally, at the time) so we have to cover that as well as a recent trailer that causes some squealing and speculation.  There’s also news of an epic movie clash coming in 2015, some epic breakfasts to fortify you for any unexpected journeys you may be going on, and probably the coolest airport artwork ever.

We’re also dying to get our hands on the Hobbit-themed Moleskine notebooks, a new comic starring toddler versions of some of our favourite superheroes, and we feature a couple new books, one of nerdy haiku and one of knitted holiday plushies.

This week, Maggie’s back with an update about her trip, some yarn she scouted in the wild, and what she’s been working on.  Karen’s also made a little jaunt to somewhere closer to home, as well as some trials and tribulations when it comes to her Hobbitalong project and yet another project to start.

In Geek Squee, there are scientists working on an experiment to see if we’re actually living in the Matrix, an experimental energy source for possible space exploration that may sound somewhat familiar, and an answer to the “where the hell is my holodeck already” question.  There’s also a source of higher education that any monsters listening to our podcast may want to check out, as well as a new drinking game for any listeners already in university (or who want to revisit those irresponsible days).  Oh, and some evidence that nerds are older than you may think.

In Cravings, Covets and Crushes, we have a review copy of a book we mentioned waaaaaay back by the Ladies of Mischief that has some seriously cool knitting patterns for the steampunkers among us and which is finally being published by Cooperative Press.  There’s also some Hobbit merch from the people who made the props from the movies (askljalksld WANT), as well as a knitter’s calendar that’s also a fundraiser for breast cancer research.

This week, Karen’s joined by Newbie Lauren, who has a finished project (yay!) and some frustrating knitting tales (not so yay).  Karen, meanwhile, has made progress on a couple projects, including her Hobbitalong slice of crazy pie as well as yet another project to add to the list.

In geeky news, there are actual characters for the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show which only makes us want it RIGHT NOW while Marvel is teaming up with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to raise awareness of breast cancer and has designed some special covers to that end. Also, you might have a name to curse at for any winter storms that hit this year, thanks to the Weather Channel, the release of the song for the upcoming Bond movie, and a community project that hits everyone right in their inner nine-year-old thanks to a grant from a group called–and I am so not making this up–the Awesome Foundation.

Oh, and in case you need to get in shape in the geekiest way possible, we have the geeky, exercise version of a drinking game for Dr. Who and Harry Potter. If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also found an etsy site offering some nerdy sniffies.  Ever wanted to smell like Butterbeer, the TARDIS or…bacon?  And when those make you hungry, tuck into the most adorable/delicious Avengers Tea Party ever.

This week there is actual progress on the Hobbit-along projects (if, in Karen’s case, you call getting the yarn in the mail progress), and Maggie has made some serious progress on the 1×1 ribbing of doom! (It’s now 2×2 ribbing of doom.)  Karen, meanwhile, doesn’t have much progress to report on otherwise. Boo.

It was Hobbit Day recently, and we have some Hobbity news, including a London celebration with Andy Serkis reading part of the Hobbit as Gollum.  There’s also a very geeky parody of a certain K-Pop song and a webseries you may want to check out, as well as an update on certain awards that BBC’s Sherlock was nominated for (and a possible future role for one of the stars of the series.  There’s also been some sad news from the Thor 2 set (feel better, Jaimie Alexander!), and some author’s released a book…I think the name was Rowling?

Finally we have a new online knitting magazine, some gorgeously nerdy pottery and some movie reproductions that we are dying to have in our hot little hands.

This week Karen’s slogging along at a couple old projects, while Maggie has started some new ones.  Also, the Hobbit-along has begun!  Well, at least Maggie’s started; Karen’s still waiting for yarn.

There’s also a new Hobbit trailer, a certain crime drama looking for a lookalike for a certain Captain Tightpants and some new projects from the brains behind the BSG reboot.  In spacey news, while one step forward in space exploration made the last leg of its journey to its final home, another is trundling across the surface of Mars to do some hardcore science.  And it may not be alone there for as long as we thought, as some scientists are experimenting with warp drive, so who knows when we might make that next leap forward into the solar system?

Back here on Earth, though, we’ve got a new issue of Knitty (and their 10th anniversary one at that–congratulations!) to keep us busy in the meantime, along with an awesome sweater, some adorable monsters and a mathematically geeky shawl.

Oh, and another prizewinner in our first anniversary contest, so stick around until the end of the episode!

In Geek Squee, there’s more news about the upcoming SHIELD tv show (WAAAAANT) as well as some news that hopefully means more people will get to see Joss’ Much Ado About Nothing.  There’s also some late-breaking Dragon-Con news, there was a wedding that reenacted a certain same-sex superhero wedding, and Maggie got a little gift from someone who was able to go; some awesomely nerdy librarian tattoos (no, Karen is definitely not getting one of these); a trailer for a movie that looks like it will be an endless source of lols; an instant way to win Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, as long as no one can see your computer screen and some possible hints about how the Hobbit movies might be split up (no spoilers, we just tell you how to find it).

There’s a lot of Cravings, Covets and Crushes this week, including some truly heroic soap, some lickable planets (and dwarf planet, sorry Pluto), some geeky yarns from one of our listeners, a super cool piece of timekeeping jewelry, and possibly the best game of Clue EVER.

This week it’s a blue moon and so Maggie’s a bit more loopy than usual, not that anyone would really notice.  It’s not enough to keep us from progress on projects, some yarn acquisition and some Hobbitalong preparation (starting mid-month!  Time to narrow down your projects and source yarn!)

In Geek Squee we have yes more Marvel Cinematic Universe news including: news on Joss Whedon’s return to TV, this time with an Avengers-y bent (EEEEE); more casting/characters for Thor 2; and discussion of the sneaky release of the AVENGERS GAG REEL OMG. We also have the most recent thing to make the Sherlock fandom explode, the passing of a man who made one giant leap for mankind (WE <3 YOU, NEIL), some early discussion of Dragon*Con,  some news from FanExpo on Toronto including a fandom wedding and a possible (good!) change to routine during flights.  Oh, and the President of the United States broke Reddit.

For Cravings, Covets, and Crushes we have a fanartist who has some gorgeous stuff.  If you miss the button sale, check out her Society 6 shop for some really cool prints and watch her tumblr for a possible button sale return later on!

We’re going to be at the Kitchener-Waterloo Knitter’s Fair on Sept. 8th!  We’ll be wearing our logo t-shirts so if you see us come up and say hello–we’ll have stickers for the first 10 people that spot us!

We’re back!  This week the Ravellenic Games are in full swing, though sadly one of us didn’t make it past the qualifier. That just means there’s more  projects to talk about, though!

There’s also a lot of geek squee, especially about the latest Mars Rover landing as well as a real-world version of a certain robot that hits Karen’s squeal button pretty hard.  There’s also a kickstarter campaign for a documentary that might appeal to the space nerds amongst us, as well as some Avengers movie casting news.  Also, apparently a billionaire has been toying with the idea fo cloning dinosaurs.  We all know how this movie ends.

Finally there’s some gorgeous yarn and fibre to share, as well as an upcoming figure of a certain SHIELD agent that’s making Karen squeal.  Not that that’s difficult to do.

This week in knitting, we’re gearing up for the Ravellenic Games!  Some of us are clearing the boards of projects and some of us…not so much.  We also fill you in on what we’re planning to start during the Opening Ceremonies of the Games-Which-Must-Not-Be-Named.

Meanwhile in Geek….Not so Squee, we have a brief mention of the unavoidable topic this week in geekdom, namely the shooting tragedy in Colorado.  Our hearts definitely go out to the victims and their families.  By the time you hear this, we’re pretty sure everyone’s going to need some brighter news, though, so we also fill you in on some more news from San Diego Comic-Con and the Emmy nominations that were announced earlier this week.

Finally, we have a home accessory that I’m sure a lot of knitters are going to want on their wall, not just because it will provide you with knitwear.

Episode 48: Comic-Con Pt. 2, Electric Boogaloo [ 45:07 ] Play Now | Play in Popup | Download

This week…seriously, guys, we should have known.   If we sound like we’re recording in a cavern, it’s because I forgot to check what mic we were recording with, and it was recorded with my laptop’s internal mic.  Dammit.

Anyway, this week Maggie’s finishing projects and giving them away, which we probably should have expected, and she’s started another pattern for herself this time.  Karen’s working feverishly on the super secret project (spoiler alert: the knitting gods were not helpful in this regard) and has been changing her mind on one project.  Like this is a surprise.

Naturally there’s lots of Comic-Con news about Firefly (EEE TELEVISED SPECIAL!), a new Sandman project from Neil Gaiman, and of course, another epic Twilight panel lineup.  Also, Adam Savage of Mythbusters has let another epic costume for the con.  The awesome even started pre-con with an amazingly geeky relay race ending in San Diego!

Outside the con, the US military is taking some inspiration from a certain Princess Warrior, while the UK military is releasing even more documents about their evaluation of alien threats.  Of course they don’t monitor alien sightings any more…or DO THEY?  And if the zombies arrive before the aliens, we have a list of places where you  might want to hole up.

And while you’ve barricaded yourself inside, we have some adorable amigurumi you can do to pass the time.

This week, we completely forget that we’re recording one year to the day that we recorded our first episode.  Whoops.  We blame it on the heat.

But despite the heat, we have some progress on knitted things!    Karen’s mostly been working on a Top Secret project, casting things on  and planning a D&D campaign for kids at her library, but Maggie has some actual progress on her projects, even finishing her Vodka Lemonade cardigan, yay!

Meanwhile in the world of geekery, the biggest news this week had to be the discovery of what looks like a Higgs-Boson Particle by CERN (you know, those guys that were going to create a black hole and kill us all), and in an amusing side note, Stephen Hawking lost a bet thanks to them.  There’s also a recent discovery that adds more to our knowledge of dinosaurs (and makes Jurassic Park more inaccurate, 13-year-old-me doesn’t care), a great video promoting Hufflepuff pride oh and a little discussion of some little event going on in San Diego soon.

Finally, Karen finally spills about the Mean Girls Yarn Club that she’s been receiving for the last year and which is now up for new signups. Just remember not to mistake the solid perfume for lip balm like Karen did.

This week…it’s Canada Day!  Woo!  And we get the “eh”s out of our systems very quickly, we promise.  Meanwhile, Maggie’s still plugging away at her Vodka Lemonade cardigan thanks to the Yarn Trickster Gods as well as working on a couple other things.  Karen…is still working on the same things, and trying to resist the urge to cast on more.  So, you know, business as usual.

In Geek Squee, we have some news on the way Avengers has completely screwed the major studios’ plans for this summer, some news on another upcoming fairy tale movie where the Mean Girl is the star, and the gift of some extra time for all of us.   Oh, and could someone bring us a fire extinguisher?  Because there’s a fashion house co-opting a certain geeky subculture that has our panties on fire.

We’re also squealing over a certain superhero-ey mod of a puppet pattern that one of our listeners found, as well as some atypical tutus for the little ones in your life.

This week Maggie has quite a bit of progress on her socks and sweater in between exposing a newbie knitter to all things fibery and working her way to becoming a ninja.  Karen, meanwhile, has been working on…the same things she has been the last few weeks, and while she has progress, it’s not much to talk about in brief.  She has acquired some mini-skeins of a particularly nerdy nature, however.

In Geek Squee, there’s casting news about one of the many upcoming Avengers movies, a trailer for a movie that has Karen losing her mind (and featuring some veeeeery attractive talent) and some amazingly cool threads for a sporting event later this summer.  No, not that one.  The one involving brooms and a golden snitch.  Yes, really.  And then of course there’s a great deal of squealing, sobbing and wailing about the season finale for Sherlock Series 2.  YOU ARE NOT PREPARED.

This week there’s some progress on Maggie’s part, and she will have pictures soon, she swears.  Just once she resists the urge to kill podcast kitty for getting into her current sock project.  Meanwhile Karen’s been travelling and has lots of pretty yarn and a little knitting to show for it.

In Geek Squee, we’ve found some cocktails for the superheroes amongst us as well as some news about casting for upcoming Marvel movies.  We have an update on an awesome Kickstarter campaign and our own ideas of how one of the doctors should have carried the Olympic torch.   There’s also a preview for CBS’ “Elementary” and some speculation on what will it will actually be like.  Then it’s into discussion of “The Hounds of Baskerville”.

Finally, we’re drooling over some Avengers yarn from two different dyers as well as Hunger Games-inspired socks, and tempted by some fandom-inspired teas.

This week, there’s been some knitting progress for both of the co-hosts.  Maggie’s made progress on one project that’s going pretty well but has a long way to go, but the other is in ribbing purgatory.  However, she’s also been taking some time to convert someone else to the dark side.  Meanwhile, Karen’s been forgetting her knitting for most of this week, which is all right considering she’ll have time to make up for some of the forgotten knitting when she heads down to Kentucky later this week.

In Geek Squee, there’s a little bit about Avengers kicking more ass, this time at the box office, a project to turn your glasses into your next smartphone and something we probably should have figured out about the Easter Island statues.  We also watched the first episode of Season 2 of Sherlock this week and we have lots of thoughts on the episode. *Lots* of thoughts.

Finally, we have a review of a book for bigger knitters which includes a whole heck of a lot of patterns that Karen is dying to knit.

Going to the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival in Lexington, KY on May 19th?  Keep an eye out for Karen!  She’ll be undoing all the progress she’s been making on the stashdown (though she’s travelling with non-knitters, so who knows how long she’ll be there).  Just look for the woman with a Knit 1 Geek 2 shirt on, and get a sticker for your troubles.

In Geek Squee, there’s a couple notes for the Benedict Cumberbatch and Sherlock fans!  There’s some news on Cumberbatch’s role in the Star Trek movie, as well as a recent Q&A for Sherlock fans in New York to kick off Series 2 finally debuting in the United States.

And then there’s our Avengers report.  This is what happens when we see a highly-anticipated movie together, people!  There’s our non-spoilery impressions first, then we get into spoilerville and trust me, you really don’t want to know spoilers before seeing this movie!

This week, Karen’s got a mostly-finished project and the same socks she’s been working on for ages.  Oh, and another project waiting in the wings.  Maggie’s got a bunch of new yarn as somebody got to go to the Knitter’s Frolic in Toronto last weekend.  She’s even started a new project, and she’s got a little notebook with some grand ideas. And pictures of a certain knitting blogger/cartoonist/teacher/more in a utilikilt (no, not *those* kinds of pictures).

But it’s not just all Frolic this week!  Karen has a movie review for “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” while Maggie’s found some eye makeup perfect for the Avengers opening this weekend.  There’s news about another Neil Gaiman book that’s getting the stop-motion animation treatment, an awesome Take Your Kids to Work Day that involved a mock trial in the Hunger Games universe, and an epic university prank for the Doctor Who fans.  We’ve also found another purveyor of geeky yarns, and a new online knitting comic strip that we both love to bits.

This week things were not going well, so there’s not a huge amount of knitting progress, though Maggie finished one sock in a pair, so that’s something.  Meanwhile, Karen is squeeing over getting to go to one fiber festival and wailing about not going to another.

The Hunger Games is kicking some box office ass, and the amazing teenagers don’t stop there as we also have a story about some teens making a Viper flight simulator. There’s news of a huge geek guest star on an upcoming episode of Big Bang Theory, the world’s most awesome playroom, and a coming documentary about comic-con that looks like it’s going to rock.  Oh, and Maggie has a topical new toy.   There’s also a kickstarter for a novel series that we’re crushing on (psychic dinosaurs! Jet packs!  1930s!) as well as a couple thank yous for some of our listeners and a blog post with a LOT of great knitting podcasts for you to check out.

This week, we have alcohol.  No, for real this time.  It’s been a long week, and Karen’s got little progress on her projects and a mojito, while Maggie has achieved quite a bit more and started a new project.  Oh, and she’s got a London Fog or two under her belt.

However, there’s lots of geek news including some geeky art of the knitted and digital variety and an article about science coming to the rescue of cashmere-producing goats.  On the movie front there’s a trailer for a movie that we only have to wait two months for this time and some behind the scenes featurettes for one of the two Snow White adaptations we’re looking forward to, as well as another modern classic getting the 3D treatment.  Oh, and geek god Nathan Fillion has some interesting casting news (squee!).

As for Cravings, Covets and Crushes, there are two books, including one filled with patterns for nerdy types, and a picture book to warm any knitter’s heart.   There are also a couple patterns that to feature, including one that just blew our freaking minds, and a KAL and a referral to a coupon code if you want to get your Lord of the Rings on.

Over in geek squee there’s a lot of pre-production and behind the scenes news including Lady!Watson, some glimpses of The Hobbit and some costuming that has to be seen to be believed.  There’s a new Avengers trailer that gives us a little more of an idea of the second plot and character arcs for the movie (yay character development!).  There’s also a video that has to be seen to be believed:  Human.  Mattress.  Dominoes.  I’ll just let that sink in for a moment.

OMG there are promo pics for the next Star Trek movie!  And when your eardrums have healed, there’s also an application that uses Google Maps that’s both fascinating and creepy, an amazing T-Rex costume, Lucy Lawless being a Warrior Princess for the earth,  and news on the possible love child of the phone and the tablet. Finally there’s more squealing over a good mail week for Maggie, and a book suggestion for those looking to use up some of their stash.

This week we have projects that are ongoing and that are nearing completion.  Good thing too, as we’re starting our first knitalong!  In geeky stuff, there’s some wtf in the form of changes to the Oscar rules, a SOPA-like bill going through Canadian Parliament, and Voldemort reading fanfic.  In the squee, there’s some non-breakage of a major website, a kick-ass teenager who will possibly rule the world someday, and a Certain British Actor reading some naughty, naughty things.  We’ve also got a couple places where knitters and crafters can give back.

After holidays and car troubles and computer troubles, we are FINALLY BACK!  We have lots of knitting to catch up on as well as some chatter about how our holidays went and a couple of the things Santa brought us.  There’s a lot of big geek news to catch up on, what with a trailer for a certain Peter Jackson movie having come out a couple weeks ago, and of course there’s a lot of Sherlock-y news (including some spoilery discussion about the new movie–see below for the time codes if you don’t want to be spoiled!).  And finally, there are a couple things to start the new year off with, and provide some inspiration for the months to come.  Oh, and we’re not sure if you can hear it, but Karen was running a fever without realizing it when we recorded.  So blame any weirdness on that.  Really.  Because we’re not like this every week. *innocent look*

This week we’re gearing up for the holidays with some finished (or nearly finished) projects and some pre-holiday yarn sale shopping.  There’s some legitimate geeky news including a Christmas tree for knitters and some movie news, but there’s also some letting loose and blathering about the holidays and plans and challenges for the new year.  Here be tangents, so don’t say you weren’t warned.

We’re still not sure just when we’ll be recording this week, so we’d like to add that this year has been a big adventure for us both, as we weren’t quite sure what would happen when we started tossing things out into the void.  We’ve both been excited and very thankful for the reception we’ve received from our listeners, and hope that this holiday season is a good one for all of you.

This week, Maggie’s started a new project, made some progress on an older one and Karen’s trying not to fall asleep or cough all over the microphone.  There’s Sherlocky news (both of the television and film variety), some proof that women like genre movies too, a really interesting concept car, some children’s drawings come to life, and a handy-dandy, very-non-pocket-sized guide to magic in fantasy series.  And if your house doesn’t already look enough like the Enterprise, there’s a guide in how to make it so.  There’s a new knitting book we are dying to get our hands on, and a trip out into the real world this weekend to perhaps get some more yarn.

We’re going to be going to the Purple Purl’s Pre-Boxing-Day-Boxing-Day Sale this weekend!  We’ll be wearing our shirts and I’ll have stickers so say hello if you see us!
